About Jazz in Progress

Jazz in Progress is a 503(c) non-profit big band ensemble dedicated to keeping the tradition of large-ensemble jazz alive and moving forward. Founded by a collective of passionate musicians, the ensemble brings together players from across the community to perform the rich literature of the big band canon — from Duke Ellington and Count Basie to contemporary arrangers and original works.

As a non-profit, our mission is as much about people as it is about music. We provide a home for musicians to grow, a stage for the music to breathe, and a gift to the audiences who keep the art form alive. While the musicians themselves are not paid, and income for the band as a whole is redistrubuted as charitable donations to local school district music programs and other deserving recipients to help keep music education alive and thriving in our community.

Our Mission

This organization has been formed for musical, charitable, and educational purposes to support its mission to advance the appreciation, performance, and history of jazz music and its related genres.

What Drives Us

Performance

We bring the full big band experience to audiences across the region, from concert halls to community festivals.

Education

We mentor emerging musicians and offer workshops that pass the tradition to the next generation of players, as well as donate all proceeds to area school music programs to provide for the next generation of musicians.

Community

As a non-profit, every performance gives back — keeping the music accessible and the ensemble thriving.

Collaboration

We are a collective. Every voice in the ensemble contributes to the sound we bring to the stage.
